In one hour the total solar eclipse will be at its peak!
I ordered some eclipse glasses last fall after the total solar Libra eclipse. I was mesmerized after seeing the eclipse shadows through the bushes. I’ve never seen anything like that before. After I stared at some bushes I walked to get a burrito, when some kind girls on the street offered their eclipse glasses to share so other folks could take a look. I was inspired by their generosity so after I got home from that burrito run, I hopped online and ordered some eclipse glasses myself! I’m happy to say I’ve handed out many from my pack to fellow eclipse gazers. I hope you can sneak out and take a look at it, with protective eyewear of course. The sun has started to get blocked out by the moon here in the Pacific time zone and is said to reach its peak by 11:12 a.m PT.
There’s a lot of discourse in the astrology community on ~if you should look at an eclipse at all~ you will often see the phrase ~beware the baleful rays~
It’s pretty funny to think of how many people, I’m assuming most of them astrologically unaware, head out in droves to not just look at the eclipse but to gather in community and really soak in those eclipse beams! The sea of lawn chairs and RVs, many people even set their wedding time for the exact moment of totality, something that would make most astrologers’ skin crawl lol
I really wanted to go to the path of totality but it wasn’t in my stars this time around. I watched so many cool YouTube videos of the last total eclipse and if you are in that path of totality consider me certified jelly. It’s definitely on my life achievement list to make it to a totality path -watch this space 2045- This video from a lake in Idaho makes me so happy. All the YouTube videos I watched were so heartwarming. The sheer joy shared with a large group of people, the shrieks of children, it’s that communal “wowwwww” of nature that can’t be beat.
Ok but back to “should you” or “shouldn’t you” idk I’m not a cop! Do whatever you want! It makes sense why many civilizations found eclipses to be scary and ominous. The light of day disappears and animals’ earthly rhythms are disrupted. When we have Mercury Retrograde for example (which we’re in right now) the visual of a planet starting to move backward must have been hella jarring!
One of my teachers back in astrology school reminded me that the darkness of the night sky in ancient times was SO INTENSE, on a totally different level of high definition.
Whether you wanted to or not, many folks were tuned into what was above their heads because there wasn’t much else to be tuned into! We will never see a sky that intense in this modern age.
Personally? I treat eclipses like a guest at a murder mystery party. Will you be my ally? Or a hidden foe? I’m not going to interact with you like we are at any old dinner. We’re all here for a particular reason…and maybe we’ll be working together or against each other. I will release expectation and do the best I can.
Eclipses are said to be the time markers for major beginnings and/or endings in our lives. I personally have had eclipse seasons be a time point I look back on and go “ah!” I find eclipses often show themselves more in retrospect.
What is happening in your natal chart, and outside of astrology, what is just going on in your life, is going to flavor how these eclipses present themselves to you. Hell maybe you are ready for a shake-up of ANY kind. I feel like I always end up making this slightly catty observation every eclipse season:
Would it be so bad if a big life pivot was presented to you right now? Sometimes we get so comfortable maintaining the status quo, the only time change comes for some of us is when it happens to us.
I encourage folks, especially in my 1-1 readings, to take the steps to make the changes they want to see in life and have life happen for them, rather than to them. That’s why I love astrology as a reflective tool, it offers us the space to explore where we shine and how to become our brightest.
And let’s face it: life is going to happen to us sometimes.
Sometimes we get a shit hand, it’s part of living and losing. There will be heartbreak, grief, pain, and confusion. There will also be romance, joy, comfort, and clarity. It’s up to us to notice if there is a window for opportunity and growth… but we have to be the ones to open it. Let’s get into the astrology of this eclipse.
This is a total solar eclipse which means astrologically this is a new moon in the sign of Aries. We can see at the top of the new moon solar eclipse chart that the sun and moon have a lot of company. The North Node symbol is how we indicate this is an eclipse - plus you’ll see that it’s an extremely tight conjunction with Chiron also in Aries. Mercury, which is Retrograde, is in the sign of Aries.
While it’s not super close to this Sun/Moon/NN/Chiron cluster, it’s worth noting that Venus is also in the sign of Aries at the time of the eclipse. It’s a full-blown Aries party! and I suggest you look at your Aries placements / the Aries part of your chart and see what realms of life may be up for some review!
I want to focus on that tight conjunction with Chiron as a core theme for today’s eclipse.
Chiron is the asteroid of great healing. Aries is our sign known for being bold, a self-starter, and led by the spirit of the planet Mars.
Chiron is the asteroid in our charts that can point to deep wounds, whether they be from early childhood development, recent memory, or, for the real woo-woos, from past lives. It’s the stuff that hurts. So breaking it down we have:
NEW MOON = a lunation of fresh starts and endless possibilities
IN ARIES = the sign of self and bravery
THAT’S AN ECLIPSE = a period that can be unstable, life-altering, a big shake-up
CO-PRESENT WITH CHIRON = where we need to heal ourselves
WITH INFLUENCE FROM MERC RX IN ARIES = communication -with a twist-, expression, reviewing past information, self-discovery
AND VENUS IN ARIES = what we care about, where we invest, how we care of ourselves
PHEW! Eclipses are known to be times that can really zap our energy. The planets and I are encouraging you to unload where you can unload.
You don’t have to take on everything yourself. This eclipse encourages us to take off the cloak of toughness we might wear to protect ourselves. We have to drop the act. It’s vital to be vulnerable.
This eclipse season is going to be a huge moment we’ll look back on in the larger story of where we prioritize what we need and stop prioritizing what others expect from us.
We are the main characters in our own lives and with this one shot at life here on Earth, we have to give it everything we got. We owe it to ourselves. While Aries can get pegged as “selfish” I say PFFtfffTTT better than selfless, babe! The stronger we are as individuals, the greater we can come together as a collective.
I’ve been looking back on where I felt I gave too much and didn’t receive the same back. I have thought to myself sooo many times when I’ve felt imbalanced and offer this to you:
Wait if I stopped being the one keeping this (insert friendship, relationship, dynamic, business, project here) would it still be going? Or is this running on my momentum?”
On the flip side of Aries is Libra, our sign of partnership, and if the partners aren’t partnering or if you are feeling misaligned in your agreements with others, or the role that’s been imposed (or even SELF IMPOSED) on you in your life… well baby I would not be shocked if these themes are shaken up during this eclipse time!
Aries energy can be so pure-hearted. What fills your heart with happiness? Where do your talents shine? Who appreciates your energy and makes it known? I hope this Aries season / eclipse time brings the focus back to you because when you value yourself and the star that you are, all the other pieces start to magically fall into place.
